General Travel Information

WOLTE 15 will be held June 6 – 9, 2022 in Matera, Italy at the center Casa Cava “Centro per la Creatività”  which is located in the characteristic historic center of Matera. Also one day will be organized at Centro di Geodesia “Giuseppe Colombo”  of the Italian space agency located at Matera.

Matera is one of the most interesting, unusual and memorable destinations in Italy located in the remote southern region of Basilicata (also called Lucania). Matera is famous for the Sassi di Matera, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and Matera was also Culture Capital of Europe in 2019.

The nearest airport is the Bari airport, Aeroporto Karol Wojtyła  which has flights for many Italian and international destinations. A shuttle runs between Bari airport and Matera. Timetables are available online and booking is recommended.

You can also travel to Matera by train from the Adriatic Coast using FAL (Ferrovie Appulo Lucane) from Bari or, for the Mediterranean Coast, reaching Trenitalia station “Ferrandina – Scalo Matera” to get a FAL shuttle to Matera. Visit Ferrovie Appulo Lucane or both for train and bus timetable. 

It is also possible to travel by car to Matera from both the Adriatic Coast as well as the Mediterranean Coast.
